History of MADD Canada
Activity in the early 1980’s stemmed the outreach of public awareness against impaired driving in Canada. Victims of impaired driving formed many provincial groups so that they might be able to reduce the impact of drunk driving incidents in their areas.
PRIDE (People to Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere), based out of Ontario, sparked negotiations with MADD US to gain the right to become a Canadian organization. In 1990 MADD Canada was officially recognized, and all individual groups in the provinces became one organization, with one mission: ‘to stop impaired driving, and support victims of this violent crime.’
Now, MADD Canada is comprised of 105 chapters across the country, with over 10,000 volunteers, all working towards stopping impaired driving and supporting its victims.
