Edmonton traveled down to the Phoenix Monday night in hopes of snapping
their 9 game on the road losing streak but ended up losing 6-1 in
regulation.
The Coyotes started going to work right away in the first period
scoring two goals despite being out shot by the copper and blue. Ed
Jovanovski opened scoring at 9:58 and Matthew Lombardi capitalized on a
breakdown in the Oilers defense in the last minute of the period.
The Coyotes would double their lead by the end of the second, Matthew
Lombardi scored his second of the night and and Jim Vandermeer would
capitalize on a scoring chance shortly after.
The third period brought about the only Oilers goal of the game, but
not before Radim Vrbata scored a shorthanded goal on the breakaway and
Robert Lang eventually threw the game beyond reach with the coyotes
sixth and final goal of the night.
The lone Edmonton goal came from top liner Dustin Penner, his 23rd of the season.
Oilers action continues Wednesday when the copper and blue fly to
Anaheim to take on the Ducks (8:00 p.m., 630
CHED).(mj)
