PHOTOS: The 2008 Christmas Bureau Gingerbread House Media Decorating Contest
Posted 11/17/2008 12:00:00 AM
Earlier today, Stacy Woodward and I headed down to the Winspear Center on invitation of the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton to take on all comers in the 2008 Gingerbread house contest.
While it was a lot of fun, the underlying message was the work that is done each year by the Christmas Bureau. Today, they serve over 60,000 people including seniors, families with children and people alone each holiday season. If you do the math of a simple Christmas celebration with your family, and multiply that by the tens of thousands in need, I think you will agree - it's a little daunting.
Onto the contest:
Because of all the icing that got on our hands, I don't have a lot of pictures of the creation of our masterpiece, but I can tell you this is what we started with:
The folks from the Bureau were ...

Blog Catchup #1 - Rodeo Week
Posted 11/16/2008 12:00:00 AM
Happy Sunday friends! Sorry I've been so delayed with the blog over the last week - lots of stuff going on, I haven't had a lot of time to actually upload anything. That combined with the trouble I'm having with the video of the Wilkinsons in studio (one of the 2 cameras I was using is suddenly being tempermental), and it's been a bitter argument between me and technology.
My Rodeo Week actually involved little going to this year's CFR, but by the sounds of what Dave, Stacy and of course, Jimmy J were reporting on the air, it sounded like I missed out on some great action!
Still, my CFR week kicked off with buddies Jason Blaine and Deric Ruttan taking the stage at Oil City Roadhouse - talk about a great show! These two guys are lining themselves up to make major impacts in the next couple years.

I had the chance to once again catch up with Aaron Pritchett as we get ready to host a Christmas Party with a lucky winner from the Edmonton Sun's Charity Auction.
Aaron is getting ready for a trip to Egypt to perform for our Armed Forces - it's going to be a tremendous adventure and he's going to try and send us updates while he's there!
Here is the interview! Below is the bus ad we talk about - look for it on ETS Buses in the near future!

OBAMA
Posted 11/5/2008 12:00:00 AM
I was in a department store, watching John McCain concede his run for the presidency in the United States to Barack Obama. About a half an hour later, I went online to find Obama's victory speech. What we as Canadians witnessed from our neighbours south of the border was more than the "dawn of a new era" or even the defeat of Bush-inspired politics.
What we saw was what could be a crushing blow to the cloud of despair and negativity that has consumed us for most of our generation. In a time where the easiest thing to do is blame others for our problems, someone is standing up and saying that we, not as Canadians, Americans, Europeans, Africans, etc, but as PEOPLE, can make a difference. We can create a greater good. We can hope, we can dream, we can overcome.
Now, as someone said to me, he has ...

STUPID GAMES WE USED TO PLAY AS KIDS
Posted 11/4/2008 12:00:00 AM
Earlier today I was reminiscing about the "slap game", a game kids would play where one would slap the other, and then there would be a time limit for the other person to slap back.
This spawned some GREAT phone calls from folks who have played stupid games as kids, so I thought I'd open it up to those of you visiting my blog as well! Here are a couple great ones that were e-mailed to me!
From Jill:
"I was too young to remember this but we lived in an old trailer that has a long hall with linoleum flooring. My 2 older brothers used to push my younger sister and me down the linoleum hallway on our rocking horse. Yeah, safe heh? One time though we were playing hide and seek and the three of them couldn’t find me so they moved onto pushing my sister down ...
