A Very Sad So-Long!

Posted 8/7/2009 9:34:00 AM
You may have heard on The Waking Crew August 7th, I have made the heart breaking decision to say so-long to my early morning role and the best co-workers and audience a girl could ever ask for here at Cisn.

I was not looking for another job, why would I?  I work with some of the finest human beings I have ever met here at the station.  However I received an unexpected offer from CTV Access to co-host the newly launched current affairs program, "Alberta Primetime", which comes with a regular day shift that is better for family - especially a mom with two busy, hockey playing boys! I didn't really mind getting up at four but my early bedtime, sadly, did cut a lot of hours with family.

The real stars of The Waking Crew, Bruce and Sean, are exactly as you hear them on air - friendly and ...

Cisn Pro's Do Us Proud

Posted 8/5/2009 7:00:00 AM
I mentioned in my last blog that a trust fund was being established to help Big Valley Jamboree storm victim Donna Moore's children, hats off to Cisn mid day host, Mike McGuire for helping set that up - details on how to contribute are on Mike's blog.  He works tirelessly on extra things he knows listeners want but arranging the trust fund could not have been a happy chore.

There are plenty of exceptional human beings here at the radio station.  I was just amazed Tuesday by our own Chris Scheetz who also serves as Cisn's Program Director.  After enduring the catastrophe in Camrose with his young family not to mention a large number of staff he was responsible for...and working until two a-m Saturday bringing listeners the latest from the scene... Chris picked himself up, dusted himself off and brought his afternoon audience an absolutely professional, uplifting show on his return ...

Trust Fund for Donna Moore's Children

Posted 8/4/2009 5:51:00 AM
It is still so shocking and incredibly sad to realize a country music fan, a mother of two, Donna Moore, lost her life when the stage at Big Valley Jamboree collapsed in the severe wind storm Saturday in Camrose.

I know I speak for us all when I say our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.  Johnny Reid has amazingly announced he would like to contribute a generous $10,000 donation to support Moore's sons.

If you would like to contribute we'll keep you posted with details on how to do that as soon as they are available.  Moore, 35, and a single mother, worked at the Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce.

May we all feel healing through giving help if we're able. God Bless.

Burkie Birthday Suggestions Wanted

Posted 7/6/2009 9:42:00 AM
Hey everybody, it's Sean's birthday July 16th and he is already telling people and giving me suggestions on what he would like for a gift!  (The fart catching underwear I was thinking of ordering for him are down a few posts below, just scroll to see!)

Anyway, pretty funny a guy who not only forgot my birthday then went out the morning of begging for free things to give me, would be asking for gifts for his own big day.  He came back on my birthday by the way with a black velvet and plastic rose from a convenience store, which, I treasure. Ha ha!

What's worse, he did that to me on my birthday after I got him two hot babes from Electrik Lemon salon to do his hair and give him a manicure here in the studio.

So....if you have any ideas on what I should do ...

Eskimos Unveil Retro Jersey

Posted 6/29/2009 6:00:00 AM
Our Edmonton Eskimos begin their regular season against Winnipeg Thursday.  But when the players run onto the grid iron at Commonwealth Stadium to play BC July 16th they will be sporting a new look.

Designed by Reebok, Edmonton's "retro" uniforms will be a marked departure from the team’s current look, most notably the “old gold” helmet, pants and jersey sleeve which features a block “E” on each arm. 1965 marked the first season the club sported the now familiar Double E on it’s helmet, a logo now among the most recognizable in pro sports.

Eskimo President and CEO Rick LeLacheur says, “This uniform was worn for just two seasons and is very unique. Our players love the ‘old school’ look and we think Eskimo fans will as well”.

The retro jersey is also available for fans to purchase. Get ready for Eskimos football...Go Esks!

Remembering Them at Their Best

Posted 6/26/2009 7:20:00 AM
Farrah Fawcett's and Michael Jackson's deaths - on the same day - had ordinary people around the world paying homage, if only through the small, simple act of remembering the celebrities and the days when they were healthy parts of our earlier popular culture.
The New York Daily News reports, "Fawcett's co-stars from "Charlie's Angels" mourned the loss of their friend.  'Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith,' said Jaclyn Smith. 'And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels.'  Cherly Ladd recalled Fawcett as 'incredibly brave ... God will be welcoming her with open arms.'

My first reaction to Michael Jackson's death was only mild surprise because of his know addictions and other personal difficulties, what I felt more was sadness for the tortured life he led and hope that he was no longer suffering.  I prefer to remember Michael as the cute ...

Country Babes in Bikinis

Posted 6/24/2009 6:50:00 AM
MARTINA MCBRIDE, LEANN RIMES and JULIANNE HOUGH are on the cover of the latest issue of Shape magazine...way to go ladies!

Martina tells Shape magazine she enjoys reading about healthy eating and preaches it to her husband and three daughters. Martina says it's working on the girls because they all love green vegetables, including broccoli.

I believe her, I make sure there are always fresh vegetables cut up with some dip ready to roll for anyone who'se hungry and my little dudes actually eat em!  Still, when I read Martina says she "preaches" healthy eating to her family she dropped a bit on my fun scale...I'll take Burkie in the foodcourt with fries and gravy any day!
