Does a baby's smile make you more healthy?
Posted 7/8/2008

New research shows looking at their smiling baby can trigger the reward centers of a mother's brain, giving her a natural high. Scientists asked 28 first-time mothers with to look at photos of their own and other young babies and monitored them with an MRI scanner as they did so. The machine measured blood flow in the brain, giving researchers a clue as to where and when brain activity takes place. They found that seeing and image of their own child triggered a response in mothers and noted this was heightened if the baby was smiling.  I asked my wife Karen and she said "of course" it makes you feel good when you see your baby smile, they could have saved a lot of research money and just asked me".
I wonder what the a woman's brain does when she see's her husbands beer belly?

SUNDAY ROSE KIDMAN URBAN weighed 6 pounds, 7 1Z2 ounces. Husband Keith was by Nicole¹s side and mother and baby are very well.
As you are probably aware Keith has had his battles with drugs and achohol in his life and I am guessing if anything will ever keep him away from those demons his new Daughter will.

Showers for the Groom?
Posted 7/2/2008

It is wedding season and apparently there is a new wedding trend.   The "man shower". Yep, men throwing a shower for the groom and giving him gifts, like power tools. I know in my family it has become a tradition for the Bride to have a few different types of showers.  A laundry shower, where they get all kinds of stuff for doing the laundry.  There are candle showers, tupperware showers, even lingere showers.  Considering that why can't the groom have a power tool shower.  Maybe a BIG screen T.V. shower?  Just my thoughts.
Apparently those that are having these new "groom showers" are quick to point out that the man shower is not a substitute for the bachelor party.
As always I would love to hear your opinion.

Brad Paisley's latest song is called "Waitin' On A Woman and the first time I heard it a few years ago, I thought it's my theme song.  Yes, I do wait on my woman quite a bit..but just like the song it's worth waiting for.  The song is great and the video is fantastic as well.  Check it out on the link below and see if you recognize the special guest.

Great Weekend at the Zoo!
Posted 6/23/2008

So we went to the Calgary Zoo this weekend as part of Carter's Calgary Zoo adventure.  Got on the National Motorcoach Bus with Al the wonderful driver at 8:30 Saturday morning with 40 wonderful CISN listeners.  Just like Edmonton on Saturday the weather was perfect.  I love the Calgary Zoo and we saw some amazing things...A 3 month old baby Elephant, a 5 week old baby Gorilla, and I got to see the Hippos swimming again.  Yes Hippos are actually really graceful when they swim.  After our great day we went to the Best Western Port O Call.  They surprised us when we arrived with juice and the best cookies I have ever tasted.(and I have tasted a lot of cookies)  I have stayed at that Hotel before and just love it.  Anyway it was a great weekend and I highly that holiday this summer for you.

An inspiration for all of us
Posted 6/20/2008

Most everyone has gone through tough times.  Including some of the most successful people in the world.  For example J.K Rowling.  She wrote the Harry Potter books and is the richest woman in the world.  A few days ago, she gave a commencement speech at Harvard University, where she talked about failure -- and how powerful it can be

THE POWER OF FAILURE

:

The fact that you are graduating from Harvard suggests that you are not very well-acquainted with failure....

I think it fair to say that by any conventional measure, a mere seven years after my graduation day, I had failed on an epic scale. An exceptionally short-lived marriage had imploded, and I was jobless, a lone parent, and as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain, without being homeless. The fears my parents had had for me, and that I had had for myself, had ...

Great advice for us parents
Posted 6/19/2008

I am by far not a perfect parent.  I would these words of advice good ones..

The first lesson is: The “yes” not “what” rule. When your daughter calls out to you, answer her by saying “yes?”, or her name, in a loving, respectful way. Never answer by saying “what?” It’s unwelcoming and dismissive. It tells her that she’s interrupted you or that something else is more important than hearing her speak. You can use that one with your spouse too.
