I really should golf more than once a year. Golfing that little, of course, means I’m pretty lousy, but every once in awhile, I get off a shot that makes me realize that if I took this seriously and put some effort in, there might be hope. They say it’s a game where you do well if you don’t think too much. By that criteria, I should be another Tiger Woods. I don’t seem to put much thought into a lot of things.
I was thinking this however: I’m so grateful for everyone who makes this possible every year, first of all to Yvonne and her volunteers from Sunshine Dreams for kids. They work so hard and we just show up. This thing is so well organized it goes off like clock work now. I’m glad we set a new record with over thirty thousand dollars raised this year ...

I ran across this list that you might find interesting. I would tend to agree with the list, but I would have thought "Get Smart" would have been a shoe in.
10 SMARTEST TV SHOWS OF ALL TIME
Mensa, the organization for geniuses, has issued a list of what it thinks are the top 10 smartest TV shows of all time. Mensa International selected the shows after being posed the question by Fancast.com.
- "M*A*S*H" -- It had smart repartee and was so much more than a comedy.
- "Cosmos" (with Carl Sagan) -- Sagan was able to communicate something extremely complicated to the layman and do it well, and that's unusual for a scientist at his level.
- "CSI" -- The way they use science to solve their programs is intriguing to viewers.
- "House" -- It's high level type of show. It's the personality that makes it a winner, plus it ...

During my week off, we spent a few days in Jasper. Somehow we went several years without visiting the park and that really is a shame. It’s so close and as we often leave the country on vacations people are coming here to enjoy what we may take for granted. I forgot how beautiful it is, standing in the shadow of the magnificent edifice that is Mount Edith Cavelle, while the angel glacier lies cradled in the mountain's nape so serene and quiet you feel like you’re visiting someplace spiritual….and I guess you are. Then there were the Columbian Ice Fields heaving and literally moving mountains as they recede and retreat, sadly, back up the mountain. For the first time ever we took the short, but steep walk up Old Fort Point on the edge of Jasper that gives you a 360 degree vista of the Athabasca River Valley. Just ...

What do you think you should never do at work? From CareerBuilder.com here is their top 10 list:
- Stealing Whether you think that the company "owes" you things like Post-its, pens and other office supplies, or you simply don't think it's a big deal, you should be sure about that in case your boss or co-worker catches you. Stealing can not only get you fired, it's illegal.
- Blaming someone else for your mistake It's dishonest, childish and tacky. Very tacky. Sure, having to admit you made a mistake is embarrassing, but not nearly as embarrassing as it would be to have to admit you lied about it or tried to cover it up.
- Spreading gossip Who knows why people get a certain high from hearing juicy gossip. Many of us are guilty of passing along at least a few rumors at times, but the more you can avoid doing so, ...

These tips come from women who listen to the show. I'm not sure this is a complete list, but pretty much any one of us guys can find something here that puts a target on our backs. Suddenly, when they're all in a list, the criteria narrows the field considerably. Again, this preresents many opinions, but see if you agree:
- Is a salesman
- Is his mother's only son
- Will only give you his cell phone number
- Can look at your name-brand clothes, and name what brands they are
- Doesn't take his shoes off when he comes over
- Has a criminal past
- Gets drunk on your first few dates
- Doesn't open doors for you
- Considers sweat pants a part of his every day wardrobe
- Won't let you go out with him on weekends or meet his friends
- Has to ask his mother for her opinion before he makes a decision
- Mentions ...

I just have a quick story for you. One of our callers this morning triggered a memory. He told the story of finding a box of dynamite in Grandpa’s attic on the farm after he passed away. It had been there for over forty years and by this time was glistening with nitro that had seeped though, and thus was very unstable. They had called the bomb squad, but by the time they showed up an uncle had packed it in his truck and taken it back to his farm, thinking it was something he may be able to use some day. After a very stern lecture, the bomb squad did dig a big hole and blow the stuff up.
I have never worked with dynamite, and as much as I loved firecrackers as a kid, have no desire to. But this reminded me of an old timer from ...

There is no question that Myley Cyrus is the single biggest sensation many of your kids are fascinated with these days. Do you remember what life was like at her age? Did you share a room with a sibbling, long for some place of your own for some privacy? I thought you might be interested in a look at her Hollywood home. I ran across pictures I'd like to share if you want to copy and paste this web site in your browser. For some reason this site won't allow you to just click on the site, but check it out.

This is by no means an authoritative list or final say, and it certainly doesn’t include variables like bad service, but I ran across this and it might be helpful as a suggestion for who gets what when:
HEY BIG TIPPER
(Sun) Despite the economy, millions will hit the road this summer on vacation. If you're one of them, you'll need to tip certain people who help you along the way. Here's a quick list of who and how much:
- Tour Bus Driver and Guide -- If it's a one day trip, 15 to 20% is customary. One longer tours, offer $2 to $8 a day.
- Restaurants -- In full serve establishment, waiters and waitresses should get 15 to 20% of the bill. Bartenders get 20 to 25% and the parking valet, if there is one, should receive $2. In buffet style eateries, servers are generally tipped 10% of ...

Last week I attended the funeral for my friend Cam Tait’s mom, Thelma. They say a person’s life is summed up by who shows up for the funeral. Thelma lived a great life. The place was packed. It was mentioned she never liked crowds, but I think she would have been pleased to see who was there. The scope of her influence was reflected in those who attended. There was everyone from former neighbors to her students to people like Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish. If you were friends with anyone in the family, you soon became friends with Thelma. You were certain to be invited over and you would be fed.
For me, attending this funeral barely a month after my own mom’s helped with my grieving process. They could have been sisters. Both were former teachers, both married small town Saskatchewan boys and both were noted for not ...
