It's was a sad day when I heard of the Passing of one of Canada's great Patriots and Poets Stompin Tom Connors. There will never be another like him, he was a true original. Often overlooked by the music industry types he once refused to accept his induction to the Canadian Country Music Association Hall of Fame and in 1978 sent back all his JUNO awards in protest of the music industies lack of support of Canadian Artists! I had the pleasure of meeting Tom at the Calgary Stampede and we hung out till 3am drinkin Molson and telling lies. He never skipped a beat all night, beer in each hand telling stories and dirty jokes. I was a wild eyed 24 year old singer songwriter at the time and he told me to always write what you know and sing songs about the things and places people love and they will always remember your name. I have always tried to hold true to that Tom and I hope I will do ya proud buddy! Mike Plume wrote and recorded this amazing tribute to Tom called "So Long Stompin Tom" and all the proceeds of the song will go to the homeless shelters at Toms request. Enjoy the song, pass it on, and Keep Stompin Toms memory alive!
