Anybody else out there excited for the weekend? This weekend is going to be a busy one in the CISN Mills Nissan Community Cruiser so I hopefully you’ll be able to fit me into your schedule.

I’m not normally a big fan of renovation shows. Don’t get me wrong, I like looking at all of the beautiful ideas, it’s just that I’ve never actually had anything to renovate before so I would get all of these cool ideas but wouldn’t be able to do anything about them. This year is different though because my sister and I bought our very first place and it’s being built as I type this (well I hope they’re working on it anyways) so I’m really stoked to check out the Renovation Show at the Edmonton Expo Centre this weekend. Now, a brand new place isn’t going to need a bunch of renovations but I will have an unfinished basement to finish when it’s complete and I’m going to use the Renovation Show to get some great ideas. The Renovation Show is full of the hottest and latest trends in home improvement and there are over 220 exhibitors just waiting to help you with your big plans. The Renovation Show runs Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 10am to 5pm, and admission is $12 for adults, $10 for youth and seniors, and children 12 and under will get in for free. Start getting your ideas ready and I’ll see you at the show!

The Chinese New Year is almost upon us and we’re celebrating this weekend at the Ice Palace in West Edmonton Mall. This annual event is put on by the Chinatown Multi-Cultural Centre, and I love Chinese cultural events- everything is so bright and vibrant, and everyone has such a great time. There’s going to be a marketplace, an exciting showcase of Chinese performers, and more! Celebrate the Year of the Tiger at the biggest Chinese New Years celebration in Edmonton … everything goes from 10am to 9pm on Saturday.

Who likes seeing cars get smashed? Monster Jam is here with two performances on Saturday at Rexall Place! While I was searching online, I found this description of Monster Jam on the Ticketmaster website- “an incredible family friendly experience starring the biggest performers on four wheels - Monster Jam monster trucks! These twelve-feet tall, ten-thousand pound machines will bring you to your feet, racing and ripping up a custom designed track full of obstacles to soar over - OR smash through. Monster Jam provides a massive night's entertainment tailored perfectly for your family's budget, and these colourful, larger-than-life beasts are sure to capture the hearts of both young and old.” That pretty much sum is up, don’t you think? The only thing I would add is bring ear plugs. Trust me, you’ll thank me for it after. Tickets range in price from $15 to $50 and they are available at ticketmaster.com, by calling (780) 451-8000, or at any Ticketmaster location, including the Rexall Place Box Office. The performances take place at 2pm and 7:30pm.

Each and every Sunday, the Valley Zoo hosts their ‘Let’s Talk Animals’ series and I’ve been fortunate enough to check out a few of these wonderful programs. Every month a different group of incredible animals that need our protection are featured. You’ll get to learn what is being done to help these animals and learn how you can help in your daily life, because there really is a lot you can do even though you might not think so. This month, we’re discovering ‘Carnivore Alley – The Big Cats.’ You’ll learn how Snow Leopards and Amur Tigers like our cold Edmonton weather, why they’re at the zoo, and about the Valley Zoo’s Species Survival Plan that is helping to save this amazing animals from becoming extinct. The ‘Let’s Talk Animals’ program starts at 1pm in the Saito Centre, however the Valley Zoo is open from 9:30am to 4pm so spend your Sunday down at the Zoo checking out all of the animals and be sure to check out the ‘Let’s Talk Animals’ presentation while you’re down here. Admission is $6.75 for adults, $5 for youth and seniors, $3.50 for children, or $20.50 for a family of 4. For more information on the Valley Zoo, visit valleyzoo.ca.

Keep listening to CISN throughout the weekend to find out more about these events any other events that I might just pop up at. If you have an event you’d like me to visit, send me all the details at andrea@cisnfm.com and I’ll do my best to come check it out. Thanks!

Have a great weekend!

Andrea
