Who’s ready for the weekend? I know I am! It’s going
to be another fun weekend in and around Edmonton and here’s a sneak peak of
where I’ll be this weekend with the CISN Mills Nissan Community Cruiser.
For the past couple of weekends, I’ve been lucky
enough to get to hang out with the wonderful MacDonald family at the IGA in
Spruce Grove and Sobeys in St. Albert. On Saturday, I’ll be with them once
again at the Sobeys in Morinville. Now, if you’re wondering who the MacDonald
family is, they’re the incredible family behind the St. Valentine’s Hair
Massacure. When Kali was only 2 years old, she was she was diagnosed with Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia and she has thankfully been in remission now for 6
years. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacure was started by Kali and her family as
a way to help find a cure for childhood cancer. You can join us at the Sobeys
in Morinville from 12pm to 3pm to buy your Kali Pink, which is the bright pink
hair dye that you can use at home to get ready for the St. Valentine’s Day Hair
Massacure on February 12th where hundreds of people (and maybe even
you!) will be shaving their heads in support of this wonderful cause. Now, if
you’re like me and you want to show your support but don’t feel comfortable
shaving your head, you can also buy pink clip-in hair extensions to wear
instead, or make a donation when you come down- all money raised is going to
the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Stollery Children’s Hospital. There will
also be a free Johnsonville Barbeque so you can pick up a tasty Johnsonville
brat while you’re down there! For more information, go online to www.hairmassacure.com.
Car enthusiasts have been waiting
for this weekend to come around for the past year and it’s finally here! The
Edmonton Motor Show has rolled into the Edmonton Expo Centre and it’s bigger
and better than ever! I was just reading online that there is almost 522,000
square feet of exhibit space, which is more than double it’s original size! You’ll
love checking out all of the amazing vehicles on display from all major
manufacturers, as well as all of the latest accessories to pimp out your ride.
There are more than 500 vehicles featured this year, including a $300,000
Ferrari, a $300,000 Spyker all the way from Belgium, and a Hot Wheels F-150!
The Edmonton Motor Show goes today (Thursday) until 10pm, Friday and Saturday
from 10am to 10pm, and Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Admission is $14 for adults,
$12 for students and seniors, or $30 for a family pass, and for more
information, go online to www.emdacars.com.
I’m also going to pop over to the 2nd
Annual Premier Cheer Challenge, which is also taking place at the Edmonton Expo
Centre on Saturday. You can come down and watch children of all ages, as well
as adults, compete in various divisions and categories of cheer. This amazing
display of acrobatics and cheerleading from recreational and competitive
cheerleaders starts at 11am and admission is $5 at the door. Maybe I’ll learn a
thing or two about balance … fingers crossed!
Throughout the weekend, you can
support a great cause at the Ice Palace in West Edmonton Mall as the U of A
Ringette Team has partnered with the Albert Cancer Foundation to host the First
Annual Ringette Scores on Cancer event. Teams of all ages and abilities will be
playing ringette from 6am to 6pm on Saturday and 11am to 7pm on Sunday, and
each participant has raised at least $100 for the Cross Cancer Institute. If
you’re out and about this weekend and just happen to be at West Edmonton Mall,
make sure you stop by the Ice Palace and cheer on the partipicants in this
wonderful fundraiser … or, hey, why not even make a special trip? I know they’d
appreciate all of the support they can get.
With the recent devastation from the
magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti, I’m sure a lot of you, including me, are
more curious than ever about earthquakes. The Telus World of Science will be
educating everyone this weekend with their ‘All About Earthquakes’ program.
Between 12:30pm and 4:30pm, you can come down to the Environment Gallery at the
Telus World of Science and get the chance to view satellite images of Haiti
before and after the earthquake, as well as how rescue workers are using those
images to aid in their missions. You’ll also learn about plate tectonics and
the forces that cause earthquakes, and what the odds are of there being an
earthquake in Canada are. I know I learned all about earthquakes when I was in
school but that was a long time ago so I’m really excited to check this out! For
more information, go online to edmontonscience.com.
This weekend is going to be a busy
one so keep it on CISN throughout the weekend to find out more about these
events, and others I’ll be checking out. If you have an event you’d like me to
attend, please feel free to e-mail me all of the details at andrea@cisnfm.com.
Have a safe weekend!
