Is it weird that each and every week I say to myself
“Wasn’t it just the weekend and now another weekend is here?” but at the same
time thinking to myself that the workweek is way too long and it’s going by way
to slowly? I wonder if others out there feel the same or if I’m just different
that way.
This weekend is going to be full of fun so I hope
you’ll be able to join me in the CISN Mills Nissan Community Cruiser somewhere
along the way!
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting Kali
MacDonald and her family. Kali inspired the St. Valentines Day Hair Massacure,
which is being held this year on February 12th. Kali was 2 when she
was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and has thankfully been in
remission for 6 years. Kali’s story really touches home with me because my
little sister was also diagnosed with a type of leukemia when she was 2 and
thankfully been in remission for almost 24 years now after a successful bone
marrow transplant and chemotherapy. We’re only a few weeks away from the St.
Valentines Day Hair Massacure and on Saturday you can join me at the Sobeys at
392 St. Albert Road in St. Albert from 12pm to 3pm to pick up your Kali Pink
and get ready for this wonderful event. Now if you’re wondering what Kali Pink
is, it’s pink hair dye that you can use at home so people know you support this
wonderful cause. You can also buy pink clip-in hair extensions if you don’t
want to dye your hair pink and shave your head. I strongly encourage everyone
to support this amazing event! There will even be a free Johnsonville Barbeque
so you can pick up a tasty Johnsonville brat when you come down. Please do keep
in mind that donations are being accepted and all money raised will be going to
Kids with Cancer and the Stollery Children’s Hospital. You’ll also be able to
meet Kali and her family … they will be down here and I know that they look
forward to meeting lots of people and telling you about their incredible
journey. For more information, go online to www.hairmassacure.com.
This is the final weekend of the Ice On Whyte
Festival and it’s definitely an event you want to check out if you haven’t yet.
Even Eric McCormack, who played Will on Will & Grace, checked it out! How
cool is that?!?! He was in town last weekend visiting some family and was
spotted at the Ice On Whyte Festival on Saturday afternoon. The ice sculptures
are incredible … every time I look at them, I become more and more in awe at
the people who carved them. My personal favourite carving was of the giraffes.
I’m a sucker for giraffes and it was awesome! Along with all of the very cool
ice sculptures, there is also an ice castle, complete with furniture that you
can sit on, an ice slide that you can take a crazy carpet down, and a heated
tent for you to warm up in. Admission is only $2, and it goes from 10am to 10pm
both Saturday and Sunday at Festival Park, which is located on 85th
Avenue and 104th Street. For more information, go online to
iceonwhyte.ca.
Who has the hardest shot? Who is
the fastest skater? Who has the best shot accuracy? On Sunday, we’re all going
to find out at the Oilers 2010 Skills Competition Powered by Reebok! I love the
skills competition because no matter what is happening on the ice season-wise,
this event is a fun day for the whole family. The players all have a great time
joking around in between the events and the Oilers organization really does
make this a great family event. The 2010 Skills Competition will feature Oilers
players participating in the following competitions: Hardest Shot, Puck
Control, Most Accurate Shot, King of the Shootout, and the really popular 3 on
3. And- the employees and management of SMS Equipment are going to donate $100
for every mile per hour Sheldon Souray shoots the puck in the Hardest Shot
competition to the Stollery Children's Hospital, through the Edmonton Oiler
Community Foundation. You know that’s going to motivate Sheldon to shoot the
puck even harder! Tickets are only $10 in advance at Ticketmaster or $12 at the
door however past years have sold out so I encourage you to get your tickets
sooner rather than later. The Oilers 2010 Skills Competition Powered by Reebok
starts at noon Sunday at Rexall Place.
The 9th Annual
Edmonton Pet Expo is this weekend at the Edmonton Expo Centre and if I’m not
careful, I’m going to end up wanting to get a dog even more than I already do
when I leave (I even have a name picked out … I just need to get a dog now).
This wonderful event is full of critters of all shapes and sizes from dogs and
cats to reptiles, a petting zoo, and more! You’ll be able to interact with
animal lovers, get information, and shop for you and your pet, as well as learn
the behaviours and general characteristics of different breeds before choosing
your pet, which I will definitely be checking out because I want to make sure
that a Beagle is the right dog for me. The Doggie Demo area is also going to be
in full swing with all kinds of demonstrations for you to watch. The 9th
Annual Edmonton Pet Expo is taking place in Hall A at the Edmonton Expo Centre
from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday. Admission is $8 for
everyone over 12, $6 for children aged 5 to 11, or $20 for a family of two
adults and two children, and for more information, go online to petexpo.ca.
Wow, this has been a long one!
It’s going to be a busy weekend so I hope that I see you this weekend. Keep
listening to CISN throughout the weekend for more information on these and
other events I’ll be visiting. And- if you have an event you’d like me to
attend, please send me all of the information at andrea@cisnfm.com and I’ll do my best to
come out!
