Christopher McDonald, aka Shooter McGavin, was arrested for drunk driving last night (October 28) in Lake Arrowhead, California. Eyewitnesses told TMZ that McDonald drove his Porsche off the highway, took out a gas meter, and ended up in an embankment.
When officers arrived, witnesses also said McDonald used the “celebrity” card, essentially asking police “Don’t you know who I am?” before telling them he was in Happy Gilmore in hopes that it would get him out of being arrested. It didn’t work. McDonald was taken into custody.
Happy Gilmore was released in 1996 and, to date, it’s McDonald’s portrayal of Shooter McGavin is his most recognizable role.
Fans quickly took to Twitter as news of Shooter’s (I mean, McDonald’s) arrest.

He should go 💯 and legally change his name to Shooter Mcgavin. This ain’t surprising thou, Happy Gilmore is a better driver, pun intended.

All joking aside, drinking and driving is NEVER cool so deep down this is how we’re all feeling today:
Shooter McGavin. Once the best player on the Tour, now a piece of human garbage.
Don't drink and drive kids https://t.co/coKjpAN6Dn

Last night’s DUI wasn’t his first. He was arrested in 2013 in Wilmington, North Carolina with a blood alcohol level of .15, which is almost double the legal limit.
Here’s hoping McDonald gets the help he so clearly needs. In the meantime, let’s go back to happier times and relive some of Shooter’s greatest moments.
