Country music queen Reba McEntire celebrated the 40th anniversary of her Grand Ole Opry debut on Friday (September 22) with a special performance. During a rendition of Reba’s 1993 hit “Does He Love You”, originally sung with Linda Davis, Carrie Underwood showed up to sing Linda’s part.
Reba recalled to Nashville’s Tennessean newspaper that a surprise appearance by Dolly Parton at her Opry debut 40 years ago meant a shorter set list for her. “She had just come in the parking lot and they said, ‘Reba, we’re going to have to take one of your songs (for Dolly).’ she told the newspaper. “I said, ‘It’s okay with me. Can I meet her?’ I was thrilled to death”.
This time, at least, an appearance by Dolly meant a three-tiered cake for Reba.
“I can’t believe @dollyparton was here to surprise me!” Reba captioned an Instagram picture.
Vince Gill was also onstage for the celebrations, which certainly excited Carrie, who wrote on Instagram “How is this my life? I got to be part of this crew celebrating @reba’s 40th anniversary of her first @opry appearance! Three legends… and me!!! So many dreams came true tonight!”
She shared another picture of the 4 country superstars backstage, saying “Pretty sure we’re all besties now”. I think she’s right! Congrats, Reba!
