For a third week “Small Town Boy” from Dustin Lynch is the #1 song on CISN Country’s American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks. ACC with Kix Brook is heard every Saturday 8am-Noon on CISN Country.
Dustin just released his new LP “Current Mood” at the beginning of September.
Dustin said the sound of his new album “Current Mood” spans George Strait to R. Kelly and Sublime quite the musical trek for the Tullahoma Tennessee native who started his career in a wide-brimmed cowboy hat singing about cowboys and angels.
“This sound is all over the map,” Lynch said of “Current Mood.” “We go from very stripped down classic country all the way to super R&B infused pop and rock. Somehow (all the songs are) eating at the table together.”
Lynch spent well over a year making “Current Mood,” a process that was lengthened when he teamed with producer Zach Crowell to record “Small Town Boy.” The singer was inspired by Crowell’s unabashed enthusiasm for the now multi-week No. 1 and decided he only wanted to record songs that elicited the same level of passion from himself and his creative team.
“From that moment on, it wasn’t about, ‘Let’s get the album done,’” Lynch said. “It was, ‘This will get done when it gets done.’ That’s why I ended up with five different producers and eight different studios. What we got feels like each song is completely different than the one before it.” With his new progressive sound and the more mature themes in his songs, Lynch admitted he’s “nervous as hell” for people to hear his new music.
“It’s important to grow and have something to be excited about and challenging,” he explained. “It’s a challenge to go outside of the comfort zone. I’ve lived though some relationships over the past years, traveled the world, made new friends, celebrated life, and I look at these songs and they speak to all these moments.” “Current Mood” is home to hits “Seein’ Red” and Lynch’s current three-week #1 “Small Town Boy,” the singer’s fifth consecutive chart-topper.
