I had the privilege of spending a few days at the beautiful Sandals South Coast in Whitehouse Jamaica earlier this month. But I wasn’t there just for leisure! I was there to talk to James Barker Band, Lauren Alaina and Kip Moore and get the stories behind the songs.
After a wonderful chat with James Barker Band and the lovely Lauren Alaina, I finally got to sit down with Kip Moore. He’s a songwriter first, and we went deep into the songs. But first we absolutely had to talk about the fact that we were in beautiful Jamaica! (And he had to make fun of us Canadian’s for not being able to handle the extreme heat.)
Now, the music. First, his current single “More Girls Like You”.
Kip wasn’t one of those guys who knew how to play guitar, or knew he wanted to perform when he was young. So when did the music and songwriting start becoming a big part of his life?
Where do the songs come from?
These songs Kip’s being talking about (“More Girls Like You”, “Bittersweet Company” and “Try Again”) are all from his newly released album “Slowheart“. He describes the album as a “strong” record.
This SLOWHEART record took a little over a year to make...I searched for sounds & melodies in a different way than I had in the past. I was inspired by so many people and their outlooks on life, which in turn had a profound impact on my writing for this record. I wanted to show you (those of you that care) a small window into the journey of making the SLOWHEART record. Documentary coming soon...
And for him, it’s always just been about the purity of the music.
For Kip, the purity of his music will NOT be compromised. He does what HE wants…because he’s earned it!
So what’s his advice for emerging artists?
Thank you Kip, Lauren and James Barker Band for taking the time to chat with me and share your stories with CISN Country!
Special thanks to photographer, videographer, social media guru and travel partner, Chelsey Jensen, for beautifully capturing all these special moments.
