Troy Gentry died suddenly because of a plane crash on September 8 and Don Williams died after a short illness on September 8. News of the tragedy broke during Garth Brooks’ fifth show in Calgary and he took a moment to pay tribute to the Country legends.
“It’s funny being in this position where you’re kinda between the gods and you’re kinda between all the new guys – and Montgomery Gentry. We lost Gentry today in a crash. Hats off for these guys, they’re all about love and all about celebration. I’m telling you right now- There’s not one of us that comes out here that doesn’t realize that every night is exactly that. It’s a celebration of being able to do the greatest gig on the planet and that is being able to play music.
So how about tonight in honour of both those guys and all those that came before us and all those who are going to go on.. How about let’s play “The Dance.” – Garth Brooks
