Dustin Lynch’s Small Town Boy is the #1 song on CISN Country’s American Country with Kix Brooks. Small Town Boy is Dustin’s 5th #1 song.
Dustin waited three years between the release of his sophomore record, Where It’s At, and his third studio album, Current Mood, available Friday (Sept. 8). In a world where artists try to get music out as quickly as possible, even releasing EP’s while they finish a full-length album as a way to remain in the forefront of fans’ minds, Lynch purposefully waited until he knew Current Mood was exactly the way he wanted it to be.
Of course, Lynch didn’t know when he began writing and gathering songs for Current Mood that the process would take so long but even if he did, the singer says, he wouldn’t change a thing. Each of the 13 songs on Current Mood reflect different sides of Lynch, many which he is sharing with his fans for the first time.
“It’s a collection of the last three years of my life all the relationships, the travels,” Lynch tells The Boot of Current Mood. “It’s been a crazy three years, in a good way; it’s been fun. I don’t put a lot of my personal life, personal time, on social media, so this was my way of giving everybody a peek behind that curtain.” Lynch co-wrote seven of the 13 songs on Current Mood. Every song is vital to the entire package of Current Mood, Lynch says.
“There are moments that make you sit back and reflect on how far you’ve come; this is one of those moments,” Lynch tells BillBoard. “From a small town of Tullahoma, Tennessee to 5 #1’s in a row at country radio, this song has never felt bigger and our crowds have never been better. The fans are the reason for my success, so thank you to every single person who turned this song on, turned it up and sang it at the top of their lungs at one of our shows.”
Lynch has wrapped up a summer that’s featured county fair appearances, where he’s discovered “Small Town Boy” is turning into a phenomenon. “We’re having record-setting crowds,” he says. “It’s crazy. The timing couldn’t be better. The buzz and the electricity and the energy is just like it’s never been before.”
Now on tour with Brad Paisley, Lynch is gearing up for a 15 city headlining tour, launching Nov. 3 in Fayetteville, N.C., with opening acts LANCO and Michael Ray. After touring with such powerhouse performers as Paisley, Bryan and Florida Georgia Line, Lynch knows he’s been tutored in stagecraft by the masters.
His most important lesson: “Confidence, Just be who you are. Be real. Don’t worry too much. Don’t calculate too much.”
