We all know the story- set in the Catskills in 1963, Baby and her family go on a family vacation to the Kellerman’s Resort. There, she meets Johnny, learns to (dirty) dance, and falls in love along the way. Need a refresher? Here’s the trailer:
Dirty Dancing was a low budget movie that turned into a big hit, making $214 million at the box office. It also gave us one of the most famous lines in movie history. AFI (American Film Institute) ranked “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” as the 98th most famous line in movie history … but it almost never made it into the final cut! In an interview earlier this year with the Huffington Post, the film’s writer, Eleanor Bergstein, said “”I don’t think anybody thought it was too great a line. Patrick didn’t want to say it, but I just said, ‘Well, just say it once and then the next time, just go up and do the speech and maybe we won’t use it.’ But we decided to use it.”

In New York, thousands of people flocked to Bryant Park to watch Dirty Dancing in honour of the 30th anniversary of its release.
Others watched from the comfort of their home.
Dirty Dancing might be 30 years old today but the love for it is still as strong as ever (with no sign of slowing down!).

In 2004, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights was released, and earlier this year, Abigail Breslin starred in a TV remake of Dirty Dancing. One thing we can all agree on is that nothing will ever capture of the magic of the original. Happy 30th Anniversary, Dirty Dancing!
