After 54 years on the air, Doctor Who is getting its first female Doctor. Jodie Whittaker will pilot the TARDIS as the new Time Lord on the hit BBC series.
The much anticipated reveal came in the form of a trailer at the end of the Wimbledon men’s singles final earlier today (July 16).
Whittaker will be taking over the role of the Doctor from Peter Capaldi, who has played the role since 2013.

Chris Chibnall, Doctor Who’s new head writer and executive producer, told the BBC: “I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we’re thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away.”
Whittaker said: “I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey – with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet. It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”
I personally don’t watch Doctor Who but a few of my friends are huge fans. I asked my friend Jasmine what she thought of a female taking over the role of the Time Lord. She’s stoked saying “I’m SUPER excited, they’ve kinda been hinting last season that this was coming and I was pretty much hoping it would be a woman.”
Other fan reaction has been mixed with some pumped for a female Doctor and others not quite so happy about it.
So if I understand the internet correctly, Doctor Who being female is either inherently the best or worst thing ever.
