The big NHL rumour going around today is that the Oilers and McDavid are close to an 8-year $106M contract extension that would make him the highest paid player in the league! Not bad for a 20-year-old kid hey?
Now…nothing can be made official until Saturday and McDavid’s agent Jeff Jackson didn’t confirm or deny the rumour today when talking to the Canadian Press “We are still working on it.” Usually with this kinda thing where there’s smoke there’s fire. If this is the deal that gets announced Saturday, it would mean McDavid has the highest yearly cap hit in the league, at $13.25M and that would kick in in 2018/2019. You can read more about that from our friends at Global Edmonton
