Klefbom’s the sexiest, Kesler’s the baby-est..and the Canucks are just the worst.
Tonight, the NHL was in celebration mode, handing out it’s regular season awards at a fancy show in Las Vegas. The Hart Trophy, the Vezina, the Calder, the Jack Adams…all of the NHL’s best got their due on national Television.
Actually, that’s not true. There’s a handful of winners from this past season that the NHL did not announce tonight. They gave me that honour instead. Below, your “Unusual NHL Awards” winners.
Award: Worst Dresser
Winner: Brian Burke – Calgary Flames
This award is likely to one day be named after the front office member of the Calgary Flames, I mean…what is that around his neck.
Why he refuses to wear his tie properly, or drop the tie all-together, is beyond me…but this isn’t a one year phenomenon.
Award: Captain Wahhhmbulance
Winner: Ryan Kesler – Anaheim Ducks
This award goes to the player that displayed the most childish behavior throughout the season and is most likely to get caught in actual diapers at some point this summer because they’re a big fat baby. Congrats, Ryan!
Award: MSWP – Most Swoon-Worthy Player
Winner: Oscar Klefbom – Edmonton Oilers
This one is pretty self explanatory. I mean, look at him.
I said, look at him.
Award: He’s a Beauty
Winner(s): Joe Thornton & Brent Burns – San Jose Sharks
The biggest compliment a teammate can give another in a post game scrum is, “He’s a Beauty”. And one can earn that type of praise through any number of actions…scoring goals, taking care of the bill, or even looking like a lumberjack just because. This year’s winners get to split the trophy. Aren’t convinced that the two San Jose Sharks are beauties? Just watch this.
Last, and definitely least…
Award: The Snore-is Trophy
Winner: The Vancouver Canucks
While the Norris Trophy goes to the league’s top defenseman, the Snore-is Trophy goes to the league’s most boring team. The team that gives you zero reason to tune in. The Canucks: They’re awful, the jerseys are ugly…and their games are always on passed your bed time. Never before has a pair of Swedish twins garnered less attention.
Congrats to all of this year’s winners! Best of luck next season! You’ll need it.
