Let’s take a look back at some current and past power couples.
Tim McGraw & Faith Hill
Tim and Faith met in 1994 at a festival but Faith was going through a divorce and Tim was dating someone. In 1996, both were single and Faith was set to open for Tim on his aptly named Spontaneous Combustion Tour. Sparks sure flew and Tim and Faith were married on October 6, 1996. Over the past 21 years, Tim and Faith welcomed girls Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey, toured together, and released some of the best duets in country music.
Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash
Johnny and June met in 1956 when they were backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. June was introduced to Johnny’s music by Elvis Presley, who she was singing back up for. Johnny and June’s attraction was undeniable but it took 12 years before she would finally say yes to one of his many marriage proposals. Johnny proposed in front of 7000 fans during a show in 1968. Did you know Johnny’s hit song ‘Ring of Fire’ written by June Carter Cash and Merle Kilgore about June falling in love with Johnny? Johnny and June were simply amazing together.
Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have been happily married for 11 years but their friendship goes back to 1987 when they met recording a demo. In an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Garth recalled their first meeting, saying “It’s strange because I felt that feeling like when you just meet your wife, but I’d been married for 13 months.” Garth told Trisha that when he got a record deal, he would bring her on the road to open for him. Two years later, he kept his promise.
Garth and his wife Sandy divorced in 2001. Trisha had also went through a divorce and the pair quietly started a romance in 2002. In 2005, Garth got down on one knee in front of a crowd of 7000 people and asked Trisha to marry him- she was stunned but said yes!
How cute are Garth and Trisha talking about their relationship?!?!
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert
Blake and Miranda are no longer together but from 2006 to 2015 they were the king and queen of country music. They met in 2005 when they performed ‘You’re The Reason God Make Oklahoma’ together at the CMT 100 Greatest Duets concert. The attraction was instant but Blake was married. On a Behind the Music special, Blake said “I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.’ Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.”
Blake got divorced in 2006 and Miranda and Blake’s romance began later that year. Blake proposed in 2010 and they were married in 2011. The county music world was shocked in July 2015 when Blake announced their divorce.
Here’s Blake and Miranda’s first performance together. Can you see the initial sparks between the two?
Jimi Westbrook and Karen Fairchild – Little Big Town
Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, Phillip Sweet, and Karen Fairchild formed Little Big Town in 1998 but love didn’t blossom between Jimi and Karen until after Karen got divorced in 2002. The couple kept their relationship quiet, marrying on May 31, 2006. They welcomed their son, Elijah, on March 5th, 2010.
Little Big Town will be headlining Friday night at this summer’s Big Valley Jamboree from August 3 to 6 in Camrose. Keep it on CISN Country to win tickets to BVJ, or enter online here.
