You’ve probably noticed since the Oilers clinched a playoff spot this city has been buzzing and it only gets more intense with every playoff game! Everywhere you go you’ll see someone in Oilers gear, orange everywhere, lots of “Go Oilers Go” signs out front of different businesses and random “Lets go Oilers!” chants bursting out (happened Monday night at Rogers Place during John Mayer and it was amazing). Unfortunately, in with all this excitement, there have been a few ugly incidents. Scotty shared the story of a young Sharks fan harassed during game 2
You can read more about the GoFundMe set up for that boy here. Last night, there was apparently another ugly incident after the Oilers came from behind and won in overtime.
I talked to Paulina today about what happened last night
If this is true (and I have no reason to believe it isn’t) it’s disgusting behavior that needs to change. If Chris and over 1,000 Oilers fans can travel to San Jose to show their Oilers pride without any incidents like this, why can’t we treat opposing fans the same? I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but last year my girlfriend Sam and I went to an Oilers/Flames game. She cheers for the Flames (I love her anyways) and after the game as we were walking to my car, someone walked by yelling and swearing at her. She told me after that if we ever go to another Oilers/Flames game, she’s leaving her jersey at home. It shouldn’t have to be that way. I know 99% of us Oilers fans would NEVER do something like this, but lets get the word out to the bad apples, the rotten 1%, to be better. To treat other fans with the respect they deserve.
