One of the many reasons I love the Christmas season so much is because we get more stories like this than any other time of the year. More stories of giving, of selflessness, of paying it forward to complete strangers, just so they can have a happier holiday. The post that has started to go viral from “shoutout Edmonton” is from a Mother of 3 children who also cares for another teenager, who is going through a rough patch at home. She was at Dollarama on 127th street and 167th ave, frantically trying to get party supplies and gifts for her now 9-year-olds birthday.
“We had two carts full of items by the time we were done. We were patiently standing in line at the one till that was open when a gentleman I had probably zoomed passed like a crazy person filling my cart, lined up behind us with a basket containing a couple items. Of course I waved him through ahead of us because lets face it I was obviously going to take awhile and there was no one else in line with us. He smiled, complimented our haul and continued to the cashier to pay for his items. After he was done we walked up to the teller and started unloading our items. To my absolute astonishment the cashier holds up a 50 dollar gift card which was purchased for us from the gentleman I had let cut in front of me.
THANK YOU! I AM ABSOLUTELY TOUCHED AND A THOUSAND TIMES THANKFUL FOR YOUR ACT OF KINDNESS YESTERDAY. I had to hold back tears as we finished scanning our items while my nephew was scanning the parking lot looking for you so we could thank you in person. YOUR gift card paid for my daughters birthday today. She has learning disabilities, attends a special school where they teach her based on her own personal needs and individualized learning plan. Shes in grade 4 and has ADHD, dyslexia, and sever comprehension difficulties. Shes just learning to read and write.”
“I also have an 11 yr old son and a 4 month old daughter. I am also an Alberta works recipient. I suffer from extreme post partum depression, anxiety, and PTSD. And was just given a 90 day notice to move from our newly moved into home because its now being put up for sale. We haven’t even been here for half of our signed one years lease. Something like what you did for us makes such a huge impact on our lives. You are an amazing human being. We have all been having such a hard time lately, you made us forget about all the crappy s**t going on in our lives and had us all smiling that entire day.
Again and a thousand times THANK YOU SO MUCH. I HOPE THIS FINDS YOU. I wish we could of found you in the parking lot so I could hug you and thank you in person. This was the kindest thing anyone’s ever done for us. Usually I’m the one on the helping end of things it was definitely heart warming to be on the receiving end. Merry Christmas.”
