It was one of the biggest stories in 2016…and one that touched many of us.
Thanks to the incredible response from emergency personnel, much of the area’s infrastructure was saved, but the fires that swept through the Fort McMurray earlier this year left many without a home.
Now, Chris Flett and his family will be well on their way to rebuilding after the man was announced as the 50/50 winner for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Mighty Millions lottery.
“My little brother lost his, he was uninsured. My mom lost hers, she was underinsured. I lost mine but we were insured so it wasn’t as bad,” Flett told Global News. “It was tough and this will go a long way to help a lot of people.”
Flett also plans to donate to the Teen Time Ranch, a charitable organization that took many in after the evacuation pushed nearly 90 000 people from their homes.
