“Thankyou to Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers for making Rheannas dream come true. There are no words to describe the joy we saw on her face when he walked into the room. From the bottom of our hearts Thankyou. She said that “today was the best day ever.” We can’t even begin to say how happy you have made our girl. She hasn’t stopped smiling. She can’t wait to watch you play on Saturday.”
Last week we shared Rheanna’s heartbreaking story with you. She recently celebrated her 10th birthday and instead of celebrating with cake and a party, like most kids, she was given the news she only has a few months to live. “The type of cancer she has in her brain is aggressive. There is no cure. With the radiation and the chemo, it’ll help her have some more time with us.” says her Mom. Instead of focusing on what she can’t control, Rheanna made a bucket list, to live life to the fullest while she can. “She wants to go horseback riding and dog sledding, watch an Edmonton Oilers game in Rogers Place and meet Connor McDavid.”
Yesterday, McDavid showed up at the Stollery, while Rheanna was getting ready for her first round of chemo and radiation. The Oilers captain showed up with a signed jersey, among other gifts and “According to Rheanna’s aunt, Chelsea McDonald, her niece said meeting her hero made it ‘the best day ever’ as she grinned ear-to-ear.”
Since the story broke, Rheanna’s family has received an overwhelming amount of generosity and support….setting up horseback riding adventures, a trip to Legoland and dog-sledding tours! Now we need to help her with the rest of her list…meeting Ellen, Eminem and Justin Timberlake.
