Remember Clayton Hinkey? He’s the guy who went to the Oilers game with his 4-year-old son Roscoe October 1st, bought a 50/50 ticket, and forgot about it. Hinkey ended up having the winning ticket, but missed the 48-hour deadline to claim his money. “It was like a long day at work and then I’m like, ‘Holy man I won this’ and then I was pretty pumped up and then it was a crushing defeat after that.” Since we shared the story with you last week, we’ve been waiting to hear what the Oilers Community Foundation would do.
“After a thorough review of the matter and through partnership and consultation with the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC), this one-time exception is being made to award the 50/50 prize,” said the Oilers Community Foundation in a statement today. That means Hinkey is now almost $68,000 richer!
He’s also planning to donate part of his winnings. Here’s his post from Monday, before he knew he’d be getting the money
