My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 – Old Jokes and Heartwarming Laughs
Review by Kylee Riehl & Bernard Suen – 3/5 buckets of popcorn
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was a relatable, feel good movie. It follows the struggles of three different situations that have people learning to deal with their huge Greek family in different ways. It follows a teenage girl (Elena Kampouris) learning to deal with the embarrassment of her big loud family, a middle aged couple (Nia Vardalos & John Corbett) learning to deal with their daughter going off to college and we see an elderly couple (Michael Constantine and Lainie Kazan) going through the struggle of lost love – this makes the movie relatable for people of all ages. The telling of these oh-so-relatable stories makes it very easy to connect to this loveable movie. The film doesn’t focus only on romance; it focuses on family issues with a comedic twist. It is nice to come by a movie that you can see with your significant other, your family or even just a group of friends. The cast worked very well together and it made you feel like they were a real family.
Not seeing the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding made it difficult to understand some jokes made in the movie, but it was still a humorous film and had many jokes that made the whole theatre laugh. There was nothing special to the filming technique which is common in romantic comedies like this one. The film is worth seeing but might not be worth buying unless you are a big fan of the first movie.
I loved seeing the family and the pride they showed in their heritage. It was refreshing to see a family that loved each other and did anything to help each other. It is a nice reminder of how important relationships are in your everyday life. Overall, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 had a good message and is well worth the watch!
