Terri Clark’s new album “Some Songs” hits stores and iTunes on Tuesday (September 2) but I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on a copy early. Let me tell you…it’s FANTASTIC!! I know I know, you’re probably thinking “But Steph, we all know you love Terri…of course you’d say that!” Ok, so, maybe I would, but all fan-girl moments aside, this is truly a great album.
The only problem is, every song is so great I haven’t been able to listen to the whole album from beginning to end yet without going back and listening to a couple songs over and over and over again. One of those songs is called “Longer”, co-written by Terri, Ross Copperman and Tom Shapiro. Unfortunately I can’t post the entire song for you to hear, but I can post this link so you can hear at least half the song!
“Longer” had me hooked by the first chorus. So hooked that I had to start the song over and really listen to the lyrics. It’s a midtempo love song that will take the words right out of your mouth (if you’re deeply in love that is.) The music, the lyrics and Terri’s voice all fit so perfectly together in a lovely little 3 minute package.
She sings about chasing love and how everything always works out in the end. The line that hooked me though, right before the chorus, was “Sometimes I hate that I didn’t have you ’til now.” Emphasis on the “hate”. It stands out and reels you right into the song.
The chorus is where the real love song part of the lyrics come out. “I don’t think that I could love you / Love you any better / Love you any deeper, any stronger / I know this is just the start / Start of our forever / If only I’d have found you sooner / I could’ve loved you longer”.
That’s where I really, REALLY became interested. I don’t think I could love you any better, deeper or stronger, so where do you go from there? Well, I only wish I found you sooner so I could love you longer. Wow.
Without giving too much more away, in the second verse she wonders “A little more history / With a few more memories / What would that look like?”
I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. I think the reason I love this song SO much is because it’s exactly my life right now. I’m in a new, amazing relationship with a wonderful man who is practically a dream come true. Our life paths brought us together. The chorus expresses exactly how I feel. I’m sure zillions of others will be able to relate as well! I think this is the best love song ever that isn’t a ballad! Sorry for getting so gushy. But what’s the next step when you couldn’t possibly love someone any more than you already do? You just wish you could love them longer.
In conclusion, I’m keeping all my fingers crossed that “Longer” will be Terri’s next radio single. And be sure to pick up “Some Songs” on Tuesday. This album is one of her best!
