George Strait Rides Away with Indoor Attendance Record

/ CISN Country

I think we knew the final stop on George Strait’s Cowboy Rides Away Tour, which he announced back in 2012, would be a spectacle.  I’m not sure anyone knew just how big of a spectacle it would be.

Well how does the biggest ever sound?  AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas played host to the final show of George Strait’s final tour last night(June 7th) and ultimately the evening set an all-time indoor concert attendance record that was over 3o years old.  In 1981 the Rolling Stones played to a crowd of 87 500 at the Superdome in New Orleans.  Compare that to the 104 793 fans that watched George and friends play last night and it’s fair to say he shattered.

Those fans were treated to quite the show as well.  I mentioned George and friends as Strait invited a who’s who of country music stars to share the stage with him.  Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert all joined George for two songs apiece and everyone returned for “All My Ex’s Live in Texas” as part of the encore.

In total the set-list included over 40 songs including 20 of his number one hits! Only the “King of Country” himself has the catalogue of music and numbers of fans to ride away like he did Saturday night. The only shame is that I couldn’t be there! Fittingly enough, the final song of the show was “The Cowboy Rides Away!”  Check out the video below of George reflecting on the nearly two year long tour back in March!
