Naysayers of the genre have long believed that country music and it’s fans were far too conservative to support things like same-sex marriages.
Let’s hope that perception is about to change as Kacey Musgraves will become the first ever country musician to perform at the GLAAD Media Awards. The organization, which promotes understanding, increases acceptance, and advances equality for the LGBT(lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender) community, will host it’s 25th annual awards show from the Waldorf Astoria in New York on May 3rd.
President and CEO of the organization, Sarah Kate Ellis, talked about adding Kacey to the show in a press release announcing the event. “Support for equality continues to grow across party lines, in our faith institutions and in country music, Kacey Musgraves is ushering in a new era in the country music industry, where supporting all loving families is now a core country value. It’s only fitting then that Kacey is to become the first country music artist to perform at the New York GLAAD Media Awards.”
Kacey, who has been vocal in her support of the LGBT community, will perform “Follow Your Arrow” from her Grammy Award winning album, Same Trailer Different Park. Check out the video below!
