Well, I managed to get myself a big ol’ flat tire on my way to work this afternoon. Everything seemed fine when I left the house. Slushy snow, slippery in spots. I pull on the Whitemud and wonder how much wind shield washer fluid I have left. Driving along and something doesn’t feel right all of a sudden. Then the car starts to shake. EEK! What is going on? Pull over. Shuffle through the snow. Flat tire. Damn it.
Call hubby. Call AMA. Call hubby back to say I called AMA. Then a big cube van pulls over to the side of the road up ahead. I think “Geez, he’s not having a good day either!” Then the truck starts driving backwards down the shoulder of the road. Ummm? It stops at the passenger gets out. He’s walking towards me now. Me and my silly brain think “OMG am I not allowed to be pulled over here?” (Dumb thing to think, I know!) The man walks up to my window and asks if I’m ok and if I need help! He thought I was stuck in the snow and offered to pull me out. I said I had a flat tire and AMA was on their way. He even offered to help change the tired if AMA was going to take too long to get there.
I was in awe. A complete stranger pulls over on the side of a busy road, within minutes of me being stuck there and offers to help. Even in all the slush and snow. He doesn’t know me, and we’ll probably never cross paths again. But that amazing gesture warmed my heart, and made me so thankful that there are people out there who care. So thank you very, very much nice man in the cube van. You’re a kind soul and you restored my faith in humanity today.
