Be honest. Have you ever texted while driving? No? Yeah right. We’ve probably ALL driven while texting at least once. I’ll be perfectly honest….I’m guilty of it too, occasionally I TRY to do it as little as possible…but every once and a while, on a clear road, if I think I can be quick, I’ve texted while driving…
HOWEVER, today on my way to work, the car in front of me slammed to a stop and I had to swerve so suddenly to avoid hitting her that I actually thought that we collided. We were almost at a red light, so I looked over and tried to make eye contact-as an apologetic ‘sorry I almost drove into your back seat…whoops’. She didn’t even notice me. She was eating fries and chatting away on her cell phone. Ugh.
I had a revelation in that moment. I consider myself a good driver, and am always really cautious on the road. I’ve never been in an accident, but that can change in a moment’s notice. If everyone else on the road is expecting you to watch out for them while they’re distracted, then what happens when you’re distracted too?
Like I said-I rarely text while I drive, but I’ve decided that rarely is still too often. I’m glad that my moment of clarity happened WITHOUT an accident, but all too often we don’t realize the magnitude of our decisions until we’re paying a hefty consequence.
Serious blog today…I know!! But it’s a serious subject-PLEASE don’t text and drive!!
