With Halloween just a few days away, I thought I would share with you my super awesome zombie “costume”! This was actually done by a professional make-up artist, but I have faith you’ll be able to do some super gross zombie make up at home for any Halloween parties you may be attending!
The back story: This all started because my wonderful friend Natalie was putting together a promotion for London Drugs. With Halloween coming up and The Walking Dead starting again, London Drugs wanted to promote not only their cool Halloween stuff, but also their photo lab! All day long, 3 other scary zombies and I took pictures with excited/frightened customers and London Drugs printed off free photo’s for them to take home!
Now here’s the zombie process…
The scariest part of this whole get up was the eyes! They were scary for two reasons. 1) What ISN’T freaky with creepy red eyes? And 2) I’ve never worn contacts a day in my life so I was scared to put them in! A couple tries on each eye, and we were set! All day I could see red in my peripherals. But if you want to go all out zombie, I definitely recommend some freaky contacts!
Above you will see Zombie Rachel, Zombie Tracey and Zombie David!
I was up next for make-up! First our tremendous make-up artist Prudence hacked up my clothes. What would a zombie be without torn clothes? She then sprayed all those holes in my clothes with grey make-up (which was really cold by the way), and then covered my arms and face in more grey make-up. She said the best part about doing zombie make-up is nothing has to be even or perfect. The make-up on my arms was a mess…and it was perfect! Next up, (fake) blood splattered all over my clothes.
TIP – If you’re planning on being a zombie for Halloween and looking for clothes to tear up and stain…go for lighter colors! That way all the fake blood and whatever else you decide to cover yourself in, will show up great!
Now this is where it got really fun! Prudence used silicon to create super gross, zombie-like gashes on my face and neck. She actually slathered the stuff over the outside corner of my left eye so it looked like I had a drooping eye! What a weird feeling!! Then of course, more blood to finish the gashes off.
Something I never would have thought of for zombie make-up was veins. She pained green and red veins all over me, and it looked super neat. Also rubbed those two colors all over my finger nails to make them look all dirty and nasty! Then she took a thicker paint brush, dunked it in red make-up and splattered my face with it!
The finishing touches…teeth, hair and bullet holes! I had to dry off my teeth and Prudence actually painted them with black make-up. I had to sit there with my teeth exposed for a while waiting for it to dry. It was pretty nasty but I got used to it. For hair she sprayed some black hair spray…until the can ran out! ha ha And then we back combed it a bit. I guess it didn’t really work THAT well because apparently my hair is too healthy. Good problem to have I suppose. I spent a lot of time between pictures trying to get my hair to go crazier. AND finally, the bullet hole right in the middle of my forehead, done with a simple temporary tattoo!
In the end, I think the whole process took just over half an hour. Not very long at all! And the best part…driving home from the mall looking like that and scaring people at stop lights! hehe
Happy Halloween everybody!! Watch out for zombies!
